A fan cheers at Rogers Place as the Edmonton Oilers play the visiting Carolina Hurricanes during NHL action on Dec. 10, 2019.

The Edmonton Oilers were well on their way to making a second Stanley Cup playoff appearance in 14 years when the COVID-19 pandemic put a pause on the 2019-20 NHL season in March.

Unfortunately for the Oilers, their Return to Play campaign lasted a disappointing four games, losing to the Chicago Blackhawks in the qualifying round. Draisaitl deservedly won the Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay awards to go with his Art Ross Trophy, which were nice consolation prizes considering the disappointing end to the season.

Draisaitl and McDavid were not the issue during the best-of-five series against the Blackhawks, who were well out of the playoff race but handed a lifeline in the 24-team qualifying
