Canadiens Notebook: Habs have had to make tough decisions this season

Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin and coach Claude Julien have had to make some tough decisions this season.

The first was to go with only a 21-man roster in order to save salary-cap space. Veteran forward and alternate captain Paul Byron was made a healthy scratch for one game last week before being placed on waivers and then put on the taxi squad to open a roster spot for Corey Perry.

Last Saturday night, veteran forward Tomas Tatar — the Canadiens’ leading scorer last season with 22-39-61 totals in 68 games — was made a healthy scratch for the Canadiens’ 2-1 win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto after posting 4-4-8 totals in 14 games.

This is the best lineup the Canadiens have had in a long time and the pressure is on for a team that hasn’t won a playoff series since 2015 when they beat the Ottawa Senators in the first round before losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
